Fire Hydrants
Placement and spacing of fire hydrants in Clark County is in accordance with
the Clark County Fire Code and NFPA guidelines and are as follows:
-
Fire hydrants are placed at all intersections.
-
In residential areas of one- and two-family dwellings, hydrants are spaced not
to exceed 500 feet, or 600 feet if buildings are protected by approved
automatic fire sprinkler systems.
-
In all commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential areas hydrants are
spaced not to exceed 300 feet or 400 feet if buildings are protected by
approved automatic fire sprinkler systems.
-
The minimum number of fire hydrants is determined based on the required fire
flow. One hydrant is provided for every 1,500 G.P.M of fire flow.
-
Fire hydrants on adjacent properties are not considered unless fire apparatus
access roads extend between properties and easements are established to prevent
obstruction of such roads and a written contractual agreement exists.
-
When a street has a high degree of traffic volume, all hydrants being utilized
to deliver fire flow to a development are located on the same side of the
street as the development.
